The government-operated organization, Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC)<\/a>, works to manage the Employees\u2019 State Insurance Scheme. The said Scheme of the government<\/span> of India<\/span> provides medical and financial assistance to the employees registered through ESIC registration. In case the employee is unable to work due to sickness, employment injuries<\/span>, or maternity, ESI Scheme comes into force.<\/p>\n

Protection of Employment Injury<\/span>:<\/strong> It provides coverage to employees who sustain disabilities<\/span> or injuries<\/span> occurred during the work. This can includes occupational diseases, accidents or other work related health conditions.<\/p>\n

Scope of Coverage:<\/strong> The scheme covers individuals who are enrolled in the program. Its mandatory for employers<\/span> to register their employees for the scheme or employees can also choose to participate voluntarily for the same.<\/p>\n

Maternity Benefits<\/span>:<\/strong> It provides support to female employees during pregnancy and childbirth. Maternity benefits<\/span> can include paid leave during the maternity period in helping them get financial assistance.<\/p>\n

Sickness Benefits<\/span>:<\/strong> In case of Non-work related sickness or medical conditions, the scheme provides financial assistance to employees to help them cope up with the loss of income during their illness.<\/p>\n

Replacing Loss of Salary:<\/strong> One of the critical objectives of the Scheme is to replace a portion of the employee’s lost salary or income during periods of disability<\/span>, sickness, or maternity leave. This financial assistance helps individuals and their families maintain a basic living standard during these challenging times.<\/p>\n

Medical Care<\/span> and other Benefits<\/span>:<\/strong> This scheme also provides access to medical care<\/span> and other benefits<\/span> to covered employees. Medical expenses related to injuries<\/span>, sickness, permanent disability<\/span>\/temporary disablement<\/span> and maternity may be covered under the scheme to ensure that employees can receive necessary treatments without significant financial burden.<\/p>\n

The primary goal of the ESI scheme is to provide a safety net for employees and their families, ensuring their well-being and financial stability during times of need.<\/p>\n

History of <\/strong>ESIC Registration Scheme<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru inaugurated the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation<\/span> Scheme in Kanpur on 24th February 1952. The venue was the Brijender Swarup Park.The Scheme was then launched in Delhi, and 1,20,000 employees were initially covered in both centers. The Scheme honored our first Prime Minister as the first insured person.<\/p>\n

How ESIC<\/span> works?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

a.) Applicability:-<\/em> <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The ESI social security scheme<\/span> applies to establishments or entities that employ ten or more employees. The Scheme covers various sectors and industries including hotels, restaurants, cinemas, newspaper establishments<\/span>, private educational and medical institutions.<\/p>\n

The number of employees required for subscribing to the ESI scheme can differentiate from state to state. The state government<\/span> has the authority to determine the minimum threshold for coverage. For Instance, it could be ten or more employees whereas in other state it could be twenty or more employees. So, it is essential to refer to the guidelines and specific rules made by the state government<\/span> where the entity is located to determine the rate<\/span> of contribution towards the precise applicability criteria.<\/p>\n

Also, the ESI registration provides cash benefits<\/span>, medical care<\/span> and various other facilities to cover the employees and their dependents. The employee and employer<\/span> both contribute to the ESIC<\/span>(Employee\u2019s State Insurance<\/span> Corporation), a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government<\/span> of India<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The ESI act in India entitles factories or establishments with ten or more employees, who have a monthly wages\/salary of Rs.21,000, to health benefits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Individuals with daily wage<\/span>\/average wage<\/span> of Rs. 176\/- or\u00a0 or below are exempted to ESI schemes from their wages<\/span>. Only the principal employer<\/span> share of contribution is paid for these employees. This exemption relieves lower wage<\/span> employees from contributing towards ESI scheme while still providing them access to health insurance scheme<\/span> and benefits<\/span>. It is important to note that the specific thresholds and exemptions can vary between states and can be subject to updates or changes by the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n

ESIC<\/span> Registration<\/span> process<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Step 1: Log in to ESIC Portal<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The employer needs to register himself on the ESIC portal.<\/p>\n

An employer<\/span> can register by clicking the \u2018Sign Up\u2019 button on the ESIC portal<\/span> under the \u2018Employer<\/span> Login option on the home screen.<\/p>\n

The employers<\/span> must fill in the details<\/span> after clicking the \u2018Sign up\u2019 button and submitting the form.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Confirmation Mail<\/strong><\/h4>\n

After submitting the form for sign-up to the portal, the employer<\/span> will obtain a confirmation mail sent to the registered mail ID & mobile number entered at the time<\/span> of sign-up. For registering as an employer<\/span> & employee under the ESIC scheme<\/span>, the email will contain the username & password details<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Step 3: Employer<\/span> Registration<\/span> Form-1<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Next, along with the username and password received in the mail, log in to the ESIC portal<\/span>. This will pass on to the page having the option of \u2018Tab – New Employer<\/span> Registration<\/span>.\u2019 Click It.<\/p>\n

Next, select the \u2018Type of Unit\u2019 from the drop-down list<\/span> and click the \u2018Submit\u2019 button. The \u2018Employer<\/span> Registration<\/span> \u2013 Form 1\u2019 will come out & the employer<\/span> requires filling in the details<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The Employer<\/span> Registration<\/span> Form-1 concedes details<\/span> about the employer<\/span>‘s unit, details<\/span> of the employer<\/span>, and employees. He must click the \u2018Submit\u2019 button once; the employer<\/span> fills out the complete form.<\/p>\n

Step 4: Payment<\/span> for Registration<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The ‘Payment of Advance Contribution’ page will open when the employer submits the Registration Form-1, where the employer needs to fill in the amount to be paid.. The employer<\/span> will need to pay the advance contribution for 6 months.<\/p>\n

Step 5: Registration<\/span> Letter<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The ESIC department sends the system-generated Registration Letter (C-11) to the employer upon successful payment of the six months advance contribution, which contains a 17-digit Registration Number.<\/p>\n

The Registration<\/span> Letter (C-11) is a valid proof of employer<\/span> registration<\/span>.<\/p>\n
